Frequently Asked Questions
1. How often should I trim my cat’s nails?
- Typically, anywhere between four to six weeks.
- It is likely time for a trimming if your cat is scratching more than usual where they should not be.
2. Why would I need to have my cat’s nails trimmed? They do it themselves.
- Overgrown and curled nails can cause pain, mobility issues, or paw pad trauma.
- Regular trimmings assist in maintaining their need to self-file, especially for older cats or kittens.
- All cats will naturally self-file their nails using an outdoor tree trunk, fencing, or walking on cement. Indoors this may result in using the indoor scratch-post, your furniture, carpet, or curtains.
3. What can I, as the owner, do to prepare for our appointment?
- Provide an area with natural or great lighting, plenty of floor space, or a table.
- Contain your cat(s) to the area being used and close any doors where your cat may want to hide.
- Reduce distractions such as noise level and people activity prior to and during the appointment.
- Refrain from providing your cat treats, or catnip, until AFTER the visit for everyone’s safety.
